Super-Cute Commercial

Lately, with a DVR, I rarely see any commercials. Usually this is a very good thing. But every so often, a commercial is worth seeing. This one makes me laugh.

Yearbook Yourself

Remember when yearbook day was the best day of the school year? Or how much fun it was to flip through your parents' old yearbooks?  Yearbook Yourself lets you upload your own photo and see how it would looks from the 1950s through 2000.  I grew up in a very preppy Southern town and have very straight hair that no amount of perming or aqua net could tease big so I missed some of the most cringe-inducing styles.  But this site lets me see what I might have looked like.

Fun With Grammar

I love grammar and I love grammar mistakes.  I make them all the time, sometimes on purpose.  In my opinion, if I know the rules, I can break them.  Some of my current favorites:

• I like the way the post titles look with all the first letters capitalized even though I know I shouldn't capitalize words like a, an, the, of, with, etc.
  
• I have really been liking the word funner to describe summer fun.
  
• To me, the flow of picked and choosed is so much better and funner than picked and chose.

I also love to find grammar mistakes.  Here are some good sites if you enjoy them too.  I picked and choosed only the best.

All the quotation marks made me remember one of the funniest scenes from Friends. The one where Joey doesn't understand air quotes, "Ooops!"

Yes You Can Play with Your Food

I'm such a nerd for themes. I love Halloween for the chance to dress up. Tonight, I'm getting together with friends to watch My Boys and since it's about a girl, who writes about baseball and hangs out with her friends in a bar, I'm bringing Cracker Jack's and bottled root beer. I've had dinner and a movie parties where all the food had to tie in with the movie. I've always thought it would be fun to have a kebab barbeque and figure out dessert that can be made on skewers. So I was excited for this idea. Dessert sushi! I've made my own regular sushi and it's so easy and fun and would be great at a party, and now I have a dessert option. I think there will be a party in the future!

The New Math

Sometimes it amazes me how quickly I can click from one site to the next and find new, interesting, fun stuff. I was looking at How About Orange, which mentioned the top 50 Blogger blogs. One of them is Indexed, a hilarious, creative blog that uses math concepts to demonstrate the relationship between things in everyday life. I know that sounds scary and you might need to review how Venn diagrams work (easiest explaination I could find, the Wikipedia one WAS scary). But be brave and keep reading. Here are a few of my favorites, not too mathy.

No More Naked Walls, Part 3

Binth has really sweet cards, prints, and pillows.  This is one of my favorites.  See, I was a chemistry nerd in college, I had a crush on my lab partner my freshman year, I always wish I wore glasses, and love boys in them.  So this really is the perfect little card for me.  Plus I love the yellow and brown.

No More Naked Walls, Part 1

I finished unpacking and organizing last week and tomorrow I'm finally going to hang some art on the walls. I always dream of having groupings of prints like you see in Domino. Prints and other things I've collected in travels. And while I do have some art, I need more so I think the next few posts will be about some fun prints I've found recently.

My Little Underground has some great prints that play with the command key on Macs. I'm a Mac nerd so I love them.

Big Yellow Taxi

My nerd status has been proven on many occasions, these posts about Jeopardy and nursing school, being a chemistry major my first year of college (once a chem nerd, always a chem nerd), and that I love Sudoku. But here's the most recent evidence. My newest favorite show is Cash Cab on The Discovery Channel. You can even pretend you're on the show and take a quiz if you go to the site. This show is great because not only is it about trivia and you can win money, the people are hilarious. They are much more relaxed than on a show with all the production value of Jeopardy. Sometimes it's just one person, sometimes families, sometimes lots of friends.

As much as I love this show, there is a disturbing trend I noticed recently. When it's a guy, he is usually confident in the answers he knows, even if only an educated guess. But when it's a girl, even when she has gotten the last several questions right and eventually gets the current question right too, she is all sorts of hesitant and unsure of her answers. It's so frustrating. I don't know if these girls just doubt themselves or if they think they have to seem kind of stupid. But then, who knows how I would act if I were ever lucky enough to be on one of these shows. It's so easy to guess the answers at home when money and remaining in the game aren't on the line.

Non-Trivial Matters

Tonight at 8pm PST I am taking the Jeopardy online test. It's the first step to getting on the show. I'm super nerdy and super excited! Wish me luck!

Hopefully I'll do better than "Sean Connery" on SNL.

Oh Yeah Baby, That's The Good Stuff!

My name is Ansley and I'm a Sudoku-oholic.

It started so innocently, bored on a plane ride at Christmas, I opened the in-flight magazine to do the puzzles and, never having heard of this game, did one. After my first taste, I could have easily turned back never to do it again. But then I was given a book of them for Christmas a few weeks later. I just did it recreationally at first, once here, once there. But now I think about it when I'm falling asleep, bored in class, or have a few minutes at the hospital and wish I had one. I find my thoughts returning to them more and more. Anyone out there who wants to start a support group with me?

Blogoblast - n, 1. a baby blog

So if I'm actually doing this, starting a blog, I guess it's best to tell all the ugly secrets right up front (I'm sure that "open-book" technique doesn't have any bearing on my lack of dating). Anyway, here it is, I'm a nerd. I won the math award in high school. I was a chemistry major my first year of college. After graduating with a slightly less scientific sociology degree, I am now back in school getting a nursing degree. What this all boils down to is that Mandi, my college roommate, was right, "Once a chemistry nerd, always a chemistry nerd." I love chemistry, pharmacology, and math. In fact, when I go to the gas station, I figure out the miles per gallon in my head decimals and all. Balancing equations gets me all sorts of hot and bothered. Trivial Pursuit is my favorite game but no one will play with me so I'm subjugated to watching Jeopardy alone, gloating and boasting only to myself.

In case you didn't believe me about the nerd thing after all that supporting evidence, let me convince you by explaining the title of this post, see a blast is a type of cell that will then turn into something, like an osteoblast becomes a bone cell as it matures. Not exactly sure what this blog will become but I'm excited to see how it and I both mature through this process. Thanks for stopping by and lending your support.
